WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

I'm very pleased to announce the Explore Lofoten 2022 – Large Format Photography Workshop, that will take place in Ballstad (Lofoten Archipelago, Norway) on October 10nd - 16th, 2022. Bjørn Joachimsen and myself will lead you and your view camera during this five-days exploration of the wonderful Lofoten landscapes, iconic spots and hidden gems. As Bjørn say, together we'll create an open space for photographers devoted to the Large Format who will improve their skills and technique as well as learn how to "read" better the light and the composition in order to make better pictures. We will work in the northern autumn, so the surrounding conditions will be even more particular and exciting.

I'm very grateful to Bjørn, who organized the workshop and wanted me alongside him as instructor. I'm sure that together we will be able to give to the participants the best teaching experience, from the shooting to the processing stage up to the image analysis and critique.

To get more informations on the workshop, including how to book it, go to the following websites:

WHO WE ARE

Giulio Speranza is a professional photographer and PhD in Geological sciences.
He works mainly on interior photography, architectural photography and, above all, mountain landscapes photography. For about 10 years he has been working using, alongside digital cameras, large format view cameras, from 4x5" to 8x10", mainly in black and white.

His works have been featured on the Linhof and Sinar official websites, he is a JOBO Artisan partner and the main tester for StenopeiKa large format cameras. He teaches regularly view camera technique and landscape photography, including workshops on the Central Apennine mountains and Tuscany countryside.

He also collaborates with companies as Booking.com, Uniplaces, UALA and BOOM Image Studio as interior photographer.
In March 2020 he published his first fine-art books: "Gran Sasso d'Italia".

Gran Sasso d'Italia
Bjørn Joachimsen Norwegian photographer enjoys any challenge in large format photography and has travelled to Svalbard, Berlin, Transilvania, Gdansk, and many other places to create his art in black and white. He finds inspiration in the urban landscapes of Oslo as well as in the mountains of Gran Canaria. In between he works with large format portrait photography in his studio in Tønsberg, Norway.

In 1998 he quit studies in social anthropology and decided to communicate through photography instead. After many years of analog photography with 35mm and medium format cameras, he started working with large format photography in 2007. Ten years later he stepped up to 8x10-format and never looked back.

Bjørn is intrinsically connected to the rough coast of Norway and tries to work as much as possible outdoors. He takes his large cameras wherever he can find interesting scenes and photographic challenges. He is particularly interested in cultural and industrial history and this is quite visible in many of his works and projects. In 2020 he started a project on the medieval stave churches of Norway. The connection between humans, landscape and infrastructure is the spine of his interest in photography.

"I always try to evoke involvement and emotional respons with my work. The meaning of my photographs is as much a creation of the viewer´s experience as it is a result of my own intentions."
Bjørn Joachimsen
